Church to out ex-member's 'sexually immoral relationship' | Jacksonville.com.

Came across this article today on the newspaper website...some thoughts I have...

-she is worried about being "humilitated" in front of her church and yet, she talks about this to the NEWS! Now, all of North Florida knows her "humiliating" story...

-in my nearly 35 years of living and being in church most of that time, I have NEVER been part of a church that practiced Biblical church discipline...why is that? By real, I mean that the members all knew about something and steps were taken to remove membership status or restore the repentant person who had sinned against Jesus and the church...

-does it show more love to discipline or ignore and let the problem lay there or worse, send the problem to another church?

-now, I am not saying this church will handle it Biblically or that they have handled themselves totally well...may not be the BEST thing to have it scheduled on the first Sunday of the year! And probably something only the members should deal with not the whole church body...

-just some thoughts I have...how bout yours? Leave a comment!

Late Weekend Update

Ok, I know, this really can't count as a weekend update but it is what it is!

-our first preview service was held this past Sunday at the Hollywood Theaters...our team got to the house a little after 8am and loaded up and headed to the theater...

-on the way over there, had to stop and choose our locations for our sweet road signage!

 

-got to the theater and had everything unloaded and set-up by a little after 9:30am...wow!

-10:30 kicked off our first preview service...had 28 people there!

-worship was led by Joshua Lee...great story of how we hooked up with him...that is a future post!

-I spoke on the Christmas Classics...tied in these three movies with the true Classic Christmas story...it has been a while since I preached and has been a long time I have only preached once on a weekend... I may have to have my boys be a Saturday night service for me so I can preach before our Sunday morning at the theater!

 

-had everything packed up and back in the cars and back to the house by about 12:45pm

-made a list of details and plans for our next preview

-enjoyed lunch with the team...Zaxbys!

-spent sometime hanging out with Ray Burkhart, a friend from high school days, who made the trip up from Orlando to worship with us and support us...that was great! He is also part of the 600 and part of over 200 friends who are praying for us on Facebook...thanks Ray!

-got to watch a little football and take a needed nap

-Cowboys played a good game and beat the Giants...Ravens are coming to town this week...the Boys need to win out to be in the playoffs...

-speaking of playoffs, I have made it to the championship game in the church league...will a Higdon win for the third year in a row??

-yesterday, took a Sabbath and tried not to think about anything church plant related...I needed that! Played some golf with Kenny North at the Naval Air Station...really amazing to have a couple of military bases around the Jax area...

-I have a set-up video from this weekend that I will post soon...

-only 8 days to Christmas! Are you kidding me!??

Our first preview service is nearly here!

I am so pumped tonight! I don't know if I will be able to sleep...the last two weeks have seen a ton of things purchased, ordered, downloaded, set-up, prepared, delivered, arranged, and tested to make sure we are as ready as possible for our first "sneak" preview service of Oasis Church North Florida. We have practiced and prayed and now are ready to preview!

So, we will leave the house, with about three vehicles full of equipment, around 8am. We will get in the theater and begin setting up our refreshment, Oasis Kidz, and auditorium. And then, we will welcome and worship and begin to publicly celebrate the birth of the One who has called us to plant His church, Jesus Christ...what a great season to begin a church!

Today we spent a few hours over at River City Marketplace, passing out 500 invite cards and candy canes and talking to and meeting some of the people who live in our community. We had a great time and our Santa was a big hit! Here is the video...I will update you tomorrow on how everything went!

Santa Claus is coming to town!

We will be hanging out at the River City Marketplace on Saturday afternoon, passing out some invite cards and candy canes...did I mention Santa would be with us? I was able to convince my brother-in-law to play the role...here is a little video of the transformation...

 

Obviously, Jeanine and her dad needed a good laugh! Thanks for coming down from Georgia, Eddie!

Great week so far...

Wow, so much has happened as we prep for our first preview service...we have been purchasing things like crazy and  want to put our best foot forward for our first service...if you are part of the 600, this is where your money is going...THANK YOU so much being part of praying and investing in our church plant...if you have not yet signed up or given to be part of the 600, you can join with us at www.oasisnfl.org.

We are planning an outreach day at the River City Marketplace this Saturday, the day before our preview. Santa Claus will be joining us and helping us pass out hundreds of candy canes and invite cards to our Oasis Church in the Hollywood Theaters...should be cool and crisp and great weather!

Eddie and Papa and Anna (aka Biscuit) and Austin (aka Jake) arrived from Georgia tonight to help with our preview weekend...I am honored that they made the trip to come help us out...it is so exciting to partner with family and friends to plant this church together!

Gonna be finishing up studying and preparing for service today...would really appreciate your prayers!

And lastly, a Zachary story from yesterday...he loves doughnuts! So, I gave him some for a little snack after breakfast...I told him I would give him two but instead I gave him three...after eating those, he says "can I have one more?' I responded by saying no and that the last one I had given him was grace. His response? "Is there any more grace in the box [of doughnuts]?" How else do you respond to that but yes, here's another doughnut!

Some of the best things in life happen in the unexpected moments...don't miss them today!

Weekend Update

-on Friday, I was able to update my drivers license...I am officially Jacksonvillian!

-began the Christmas shopping for the boys by driving the 12 miles to the closest Target in Yulee...you ever been to Yulee??

-finished up with designs for our service teaching note cards and t-shirts for our launch team and purchasing over $800 worth of signage for Oasis Church North Florida...the first preview service is this coming Sunday!

-Went back and forth in my mind about purchasing macs or pc for church related stuff...gonna go mac!

-On Saturday, had a great lazy day with the family...always fun to relax and just be together...Ryan loves to eat, Zachary loves to bike ride, Jeanine and I like to nap...any day that has all that is pretty good!

-our family has been getting into Nerf gun fights...everybody plays a part! It's great!

-Saw Saban's smile get wiped off his face...can't stand UF but glad the Tide got beat...

-Sunday, loaded up the car and headed to the Hollywood Theaters...met the team and spent the morning setting up sound and assembling stuff for the kids areas and refreshments...making a list of what else we need for next week

-don't know about everybody else, but I am extremely happy of how that went and glad we were able to get a taste of what to expect...

-I love working with our launch team...everybody get's it...and it's not about us! Now, we just have to keep it...

-Sunday afternoon nap...the whole fam...nice!

-Cowboys blow the game against the Steelers..tough game and Dallas should have won...did the Dolphins win??

-I leave Miami and they have a good year and now the Jaguars stink...coincidence?

-my fantasy football season is down to one team in the playoffs...but at least I finally beat my brother!

-this morning was freezing...but warmed up nicely!

-today, began to do some promotion of our preview service online and working on a basic oasisnfl.com to have people go to (we will put more $$ into it in January!)...approved the sign proofs, picked up the invite cards, Bibles, and gift books that were delivered to us...everything is coming together! 

-keep praying for us!

It's beginning to look a lot like...what's that word?

 

 

What a couple of hams...guess what we are doing this week at the Higdon house? Yep, the tree is up and the decorations are coming out...I love the Christmas season!

You know that feeling?

The feeling, after standing in line for a LONG time, of finally sitting down a relaxing. And then like a half a second later, you pull this bar down over your head and strap it to the belt on your seat (and somehow the belt is right between your legs!). And then another quarter of second later, you pull the bar down a little tighter to your shoulders and hear a reassuring click and you grab your hat off your head and hold it tight with your hands and hope your keys don't fall out of your pocket. A whispered prayer and a quick "if I never see you again, I love you and have a nice life!" to the person on your left and right (who you may or may not know) and then you glance over and notice someone pushing the orange button. You move forward with a jolt and then look up as the cars begin click-clicking up an incline that is a whole lot higher then it looked a few minutes ago...and as you get to the top, everything pauses for just an instant...

Do you know that feeling?
